There is one place in the Red Sea where Threshers can be seen on a semi regular basis. I've seen a video of one that 'flicks' its tail at a school of fish, but unfortunately it's not something I can post a link to here as it was on a DVD. I do think I've seen a photo of one posted here that someone saw while they were diving, or perhaps it was on another forum. Hopefully someone will step forward! :)

Cheers, Simon

This was a small shark (2m-ish) that turned up at our safety stop and circled about 20metres beneath our feet - I dropped as close as I dared without totally destroying my profile.;) At least this shows the shape of the head and pectorals well.

and these are from the cleaning station at Monad shoal in the Philippines - the viz here is not excellent and at the time I didn't have wideangle so was shooting from range to fit the whole shark in - these were big animals - and then the tail goes on as well...basically just record shots I'm afraid.

Shark encounter you say?? Well, on my first open water certified dive we dropped in on Bull Run. This was aboard Blackbeard's Cruises and it was a non-feed dive....
Talk about a distraction! I had just Giant strided into the crowd of sharks, and upon okey-dokeying the DM I witnessed my wife step off over a 9 foot reef shark. I didn't want to freak her out and I am sure she saw it too, but what the heck, let's see what happens. Well half a mask above and half a mask below that shark moved like light and reappeared out of the way and under the boat.

Our safety stop was the most challenging, as 15 - 20 reef sharks swam around us in a 40 foot diameter for 3 minutes, seeming to ask "aren't you going to feed us??".

2 days later we returned and fed them. What a trip!

You can get a fix at www.blackbeardcruises.com. There is a good video of a typical shark feed.

first shark encounter was a few weeks ago. night dive, coming up from a max depth of around 110 fsw at almost exactly 100 fsw. both of us diving 30/30, diving side-by-side. a 10 foot 6-gill, very large (probably female?) swam directly at my buddy head-to-head and he had to veer aside to let it pass. the shark just went gliding on past us, i didn't see it flick its tail or fins or anything to propel itself, it was just in maximum stealth mode and went by out into deeper water. it may not have been a great white, and not quite as big as they get, but it definitely made my brain think "JAWS" when it went past...

i was just about holding my breath after it left and then one of the bigger seals buzzed us and made me crap my drysuit...
