several Palau and Bonaire

My favorite moments from Palau: the wall of sharks, having 7 mantas show up to feed in German Channel both dives there, the turtle eating the anemonefish (watch the video closely), and the sweetlips letting me watch him getting cleaned.
My favorite moments from Bonaire: the school of squid that came to play with us, the octopus sitting on top of the coral, and all the baby trunkfish.

I must say it really sucked re-editing these trips! I had to watch the clips over and over and remember how great the diving really was! :shocked2: Palau in particular, was truly awe inspiring and too many times I was so overwhelmed that I just turned off the camcorder in order to take it all in. So although I got an hours worth of video each day, I still didn't get as much as I could have. I had to be a "diver" first and really enjoy the dives. ;)

Great job Robin. I vaguely remember your original vids. Sorry, it was a while ago. With these re-edits, the increased resolution, your increased editing skills, "bumps" in contras and color, etc.. Nice "flow" through the whole video transitioning from dive sites to dive sites. Very well done ! Proof positive, you don't need an expensive system to turn out great video.

I may be in the minority, but I like editing. I think it's the whole, creation from nothing to something, thing. I watch and rewatch my vids over and over during and after the editing process. I get a kick out of it. Putting my own ideas and visions into the video. What's the term ? "Creative Expression " ? From the quality of your edits, I suspect you are the same ?

Thanks for the compliments. :D The old videos are still up on Vimeo, I haven't deleted them yet...still deciding. I didn't remake the topside videos or jellyfish lake either.

Absolutely, Ron! :D I love editing. I guess it has something to do with my BFA in art (one of those degrees that won't get you a job in the real world). In fact, sometimes I decide on a theme and just pull in clips and try to compose a video for fun. I don't usually put those up anywhere, they are just for me to make me laugh or whatever. My daughter likes dark, dramatic stuff so I have done a few little videos just for her with epic music. LOL Editing to me is a blast but I understand for most people it is a chore and they don't want to spend any time doing it.

Thanks for sharing Robin! I enjoyed watching them.

I am in the process of editing my trip from Bonaire two weeks ago. I'm looking at like 350 clips and going through and naming them. But that's not really what I agonize over. The hardest part for me is getting the music right! I really struggle over what music to put where, etc. I spend just as much time listening to various music/songs as I do putting together the video.

I do too! Music is a tough one, I am so sick of seeing videos with the same old music. I can't even watch people's videos when they use Jaws theme, or Enya, or such overused music. So I have collected a number of CDs that really feel good to me and tend to use those. I am always buying new ones by artists I like(Amazon loves me!). Getting the right music is sooooo important and I think too many people just put a favorite song on their videos rather than considering it as an integral part of the storyline. Glad to hear I am not alone! :D
Can't wait to see your videos!

I like to categorize my clips. Reef, fish school, turtle, topside, sunset, divers, etc.. Makes it easy to find a particular clip. I also have folder on my PC labelled vacation video music. Whenever I hear a song that I think might work well I throw it in that folder. I might not even be the whole song that sounds good. Sometimes it's just 30 seconds or 1 minute of a song that I like.

Listen to TV commercials. Most are only 30 seconds, yet I bet the soundtrack will be familiar to you in many of them.

Very nice work Robin! Maybe one day I will get to visit there and shoot some tape as well.

That's just what I do. For some reason I like rock beauties. So I'll call my clips rock beauty 1, rock beauty 2, etc. Same with turtles or whatever. Then when I'm ready for one of those in my video, I'll go look at all of them and pick the best for that moment in the video. But like folks have said, it takes time!
