I'm planning on a summer teenage diving program next summer and there are several choices. One trip's going to Baja(Gulf of Mexico), another is going to Fiji(but not offering Rescue or Master cert, which i want), and one going to the Leeward Islands in the carribean(with most cert oppurtunities.) And also a trip to Grenadines.

I know Fiji is just incrediable, but i was wondering what the main differences between Baja and the Carribean are, is Baja better? thanks!

Okay, since this seems like a question not many people want to respond to, how about this:

How does the diving in Baja compare to the diving in the Carribean(especially around St. Kitts)? Aren't there more pelagics near Baja? Are the reefs better in the Carribean? Any opinions welcome!

I think that if you like the reef you should go to Fiji, if you like looking for bigger animals like the pelagics then choose Baja. The coral in Mexico Baja area won't be all that great but your chances of seeing Mantas would be better than seeing them in Fiji. If you want to see Sea Lions choose Baja. Personally I'd choose Fiji.

So while you're doing your Rescue or Master Certs you were planning maybe on looking around and enjoying the scenery.

Not real likely. Do your certs in Ft. Lauderdale. Go diving in any one of the many places you noted.

Yeah i love Fiji, but i don't know if that's gonna work, schedule wise. Are the reefs better in the carribean than Baja? The only places i've been diving are Hawaii and the Carribean, so Baja would be a nice change. It's a month long camp, so the certs shouldn't be too much of a bothersome. Thanks for all the relpies!

There's some nice reefs around St.Kitts & Nevis, and hot springs 100 feet down off of the later.

You have given no Dive Info, so it's hard to comment futher. :cowboy2:

About myself? like previous dive info? or specific places where i'm planning to dive?

I'm 17. An AOW diver with 39 dives. I've been diving only in Hawaii and the Carribean. I love reefs(currently have a 200gallon reef aquarium) but have never been pelagic diving, but i've always dreamed of seeing Mantas, Sailfins, or Hammerheads. All of the wall diving i've done i've absolutley loved! I'm planning to go diving in Bermuda in 2 weeks, go back to Turks and Caicos on Spring Break, go to the Great Barrier Reef for a month next summer, and then go on one of these teen trips next summer. Sorry, I'll update my profile later. Thanks!!!
