now keep doing it as much as you can.....

I added it all up and got $5000 if you stick to only high quality gear.

You can buy cheaper, but then if you decide to do caves, wrecks, or ice later, then you have to buy all over again, and it will then come to $5000 + whatever you paid the first time.

Congrats! I can confirm - you will spend lots and lots of money!! At least you know that from the start. I was naive enough to think otherwise but I sure know better now!! :D
But, hey, best spending it on something you love.:bounce:

Congratulations...and keep with it...

Don't let Karl's figure scare you....5K is a bit ridiculus, I am in the process of re-buying everything short of a dry-suit and tanks, and I'm only looking at 1K..add 30 for my fins, 30 for my mask, and 200 for my wetsuit, and you can be out the door for around 1250$

Where are you from?

Also do't rush into buying stuff. Rent some different stuff and try things out and decide what is best for you. YOu don't want to end up with gear that we will end up seeing on ebay from you in 6 months.

HPT3 once bubbled...
Well, I completed my OW and I had a great time doing it. Now, I get to spend lots and lots of money.;-0

Congrats!

As Wendy said, wait to buy the gear. If you rent awhile, and talk with a bunch of people about their gear, the likes and dislikes, you'll have a much better understanding of what you want, after a few months.

(How's that for a compound sentance?)

Congratulations on your new cert! As others have said, don’t rush out to buy lots of new gear.

I bought a Dacor RIG3 BC from someone on Ebay (an east coast dive shop) while it seems to be good quality I don’t think it’s the best fit for me. So, I’ll be getting another one next year from the local dive shop.

Actually I hate to tell you what I wasted my money on from Ebay. Suffice to say, visit your local dive shop, go to as many local dive club meetings as you can and you’ll learn quite a bit. However, having said that, diving will be your best teacher.

That’s what I’m learning and I’ve only been certified for 6-7 months now.

Be safe, relax, have fun.

Randy

Congrats.....

if you continue or start PADI, one advice...Put Another Dollar In...could get a little expensive.
Dive save;)
