Hello,

I recently purchased a used Aqualung Titan lx online. It's my first regulator. I have some questions maybe some of you guys can answer.

1. The original owner had a cold water environment kit installed. Will this cause any issues with warm water diving?

2. He said it was serviced 12/08. Should I have it serviced? How much should it cost?

3. This regulator had great reviews on Leisure pro. Anyone have any comments on this regulator?

Thanks
Steve

No. It'll be fine.

As long as it was actually serviced in December last year, it'll probably be ok, but it really depends on how much use it's had since and how it's been looked after. Probably worth getting it looked at if you've got a reliable Auqualung tec nearby. I don't know what servicing should cost in your part of the world - it varies from country to country.

The Titan is a solid, reliable basic workhorse reg. I had one for three years and abused it horribly, it's still being used by someone else. And I've got 9 of them as rental regs in the shop, all of them betwen 2 and 5 years old, all of them performing fine.

Hope that helps - enjoy your new reg!

The Titan first stage is a varient of probably the oldest diaphram first stage design still in production, very reliable and easy to service. USD got it right the first time. It's roots go back to the mid 60's when it was introduced in the USD Royal Aquamaster double hose reg and has continued in the Conshelf, Legend, SEA and other USD/AL regs as well as the Titan and is still going strong today. With a few minor changes (some Orings and filters), the service kits for all of those regs, including RAM double hose is the same.

I would consider having it looked at unless you know the person well.....they may be honest but you never know. A full rebuild is going to run you in the $130 range. As an alternative you should at least go to this thread and do the test procedures, it will give you a good idea of the condition of the reg. You should also make this part of your normal reg inspection anyway.

The cold water kit is not needed for warm water diving but is not a problem either.
The Titan should serve you well for a lifetime if you take care of it.

Score.
No issues with using the enviro seal in warm water.
Do the check list sticky at the top of the page.....my bet is you'll be good to go, the Titan is one of the more durable regs out there and keeps running to spec for a long time.

1. Yes, it will keep sand out of the spring area.

Great news. I checked and my LDS is a Aqualung dealer. I'm going to take it to them and have them give it a good once over. Thanks again!
