I'm a Fish!
NHC official forecast shows landfall just north of Cape Canaveral with 160mph winds ,but models have it landfalling anywhere from south Florida to North Carolina. I live just south of Cape Canaveral, on the beachside in Cocoa Beach.

Fortunately Lockheed Martin got their Atlas rocket and payload off the ground this evening (earlier post). Now only 3 rockets are at risk. The shuttles are safely in their Hangars.

I guess I can forget diving this weekend...instead trying to figure where to evacuate to with a 120 lb dog and onery cat

take off towards the gulf coast...destin/panama city area...the diving is great, got a good report from this past weekend (water=warm, vis=awesome) there are also a couple of hotels there that cater to pet owners.

I actually use to live in Satellite Beach a coupple of years ago and I remember evacuating and its not fun. It was nice being right next to the beach, but it sure was a pain getting off that peninsula. Good luck!

Good luck cudachaser!

Hope all goes well for you.

Joe

> Hurricane Francis is getting SCARY

Yes it was, but it has passed by us now. The islands pretty much shut down yesterday, but are open for business again today. That is about as close as one can get to a hurricane and not get slammed. We watched the eye pass by on radar, but were far enough away that only the outer rain bands reached us. Had it passed just fifty miles more south, things would have been much different.

Keep your fingers, toes, and anything else you can manage crossed and hope that everybody else in the path is as lucky as we were.

Plus you'll only get hit by a tropical storm or category one hurricane after Francis cross over the state.

You might want to rethink and check this.

The huricane can cross the whole state of FL and only drop one step on the Safir-Simpson scale. It could hit the east coast at cat 4 and exit the state as a cat 3, maybe a cat 2.

Ask the people in Orlando how Charlie was and then look at how many miles of land the storm had crossed before getting there.

Even down to Tropical Storm it is still dangerous. Flooding kills lots of people and destroys lots of property every year.
Please don't take unneeded chances.

I know, my point was that heading to Panama City (as someone suggested) to avoid the hurricane probably wasn't going to work.

I have been preparing to move my sailboat from Belize for the summers to Florida to have work done on it, make it more secure during hurricane season and generally be in a safer place during the summer when I’m not on it.

I thought the west coast then in the last month thought no east coast. Now Belize which only has been whacked every 9-10 years looks much better. How do good marinas fair when a cat 4-5 blows through? How is insurance for boats in the marinas, my boat is 51ft and I won’t be using it during the summer its just storage, would on shore work??
