Like I said in my intro I am getting back into diving and getting my wife onto it for the first time. I am wondering what shops and who is good in the Huntsville area? Any help would be great.

Thanks

First off, might want to ask a mod to move this thread to Deep Dixie Divers (hint hint mod's). There you will find much more info on divin' in the south.

After that... here's some scuba resources for the Huntsville area:

You've got 3 dive shops. (or really 2 1/4 since one is never open.)

SDI Scuba on Bob Wallace is the only full-time shop in Huntsville.

Dolphin Aquatics just ouside town is only open part time and hours vary. (Highly suggest calling first before driving out there to them.

Dive Sports just a short drive away and they offer huge selections and very competitive pricing. They also operate an online store so you can "pre-shop" online and then go over and get stuff that same day. You'll find a lot of the Huntsville crowd driving the short drive over there for their gear. The store's owner PhilEllis is also a Scubaboard supporter and you can ask him questions online here.

As for instruction, I think that all of the above shops have a good instructor reputation. SDI and Dive Sports are PADi and Dolphin Aquatics is NAUI.

As for local dive locations, the Madison Quarry closed last year due to the quarry operator 'pulling out'. There are 'negotiations' ongoing for fixing that. (more on that later after stuff gets finalized. The other local quarry in North Alabama is the Moulton Quarry. It should open in May.

Other "close" quarrys are
Marthas Quarry in Lebanon near Nashville
DiveLand near Gasden
Bluewater south of B'ham

The local North Alabama scuba Club is SEAS. They meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at Greenhills Grille at 6:30pm For more info check out http://www.seasscuba.org. Feel free to PM me for more info about the club.

As for Scubaboard, there are easily 15-20 members of Scubaboard in the north Alabama area that you'll find here online :)

Hope that helps. Post or PM for more info or help.

G.Stod:
Thanks for the info and welcomes. I am not that good at navigating the web.

You have been posting on the different threads pretty well. Mike has provided you some great information. Check out the SEAS club. They are a great bunch and make you feel welcome. Mike talked me into joining up in February.

The SEAS newsletter he puts out has some great information check it out if he has posted a link. SDI in Huntsville runs a Discover Diving class every Wednesday. Mike has some info in the last newsletter.

Divesports in Decatur is a great Dive shop. Phil the owner is a frequent poster on the board and he also sells scuba gear over the internet. Check out his web site.

We are diving bluewater park in Pelham in June. You are welcome to join us.

Actually, I don't think there is anything about the Discover Scuba thing from SDI, but here's the link to it http://www.sdiscuba.com/discover_scuba.htm

For the most recent SEAS newsletter see:

The May one should be out soon. Just follow the links from the main SEAS website:
