This may not be the correct forum for this but it should reach the most people, I was wondering if anyone had any expirience with the new 900 series bottom finder from Hummingbird that has a built in side scan, is it worth the money, max usable depth, the literature says 100 ft but the factory says 150 ft. Will be used for locating mainly existing wrecks in the great lakes. Also what is everyone using.

Thanks

The problem is that it is depth limited to about 80 feet or less in the sidescan mode. I have been looking at them also and think they would work great for finding new dive sites in Florida --within their depth limit. I suspect that would be in saltwater between 60 nd 80 feet maximum. Does anyone have any new info on these? N

We played with one of these when they first came out about 10 or so years ago. They worked great for looking under docks for bass in real shallow water but were less than impressive beyond that.

I don't remember how many degrees the cone was or if it could even be changed.

You can do about the same thing by turning a transducer and the screen sideways. Not much hi-tech about it. Just a fish finder that shoots sideways and the program turns the screen the right way.

wrecktecker then if you saw their website you know they limit it to about 80 feet--is that enough for you? N

N,
I contacted the company and they said it is really good for 150 ft but i was wanting to get some input from someone that might have used one, 80 ft is kinda of limiting here im michigan.

Thanks Wrecktrecker
