I just bought a new us divers octo and I hooked it up to my tank and when i breath out on it, it makes a humming or viberating sound. If I push in a little bit on the purge button it quits. Any ideas??

I believe you'll find that to be pretty common in a new rig. The exhaust diaphram is new and dry when this happens. This will not happen in the water obviously, and after a few dives, will probably not happen when you check your gear dry.

If it does it above the water, that's not a big deal. If it does it underwater, you should probably have it looked at.

Hugedodge,

hmmmm...the thing that gets my attention is when you push the purge in slightly it stops. This could indicate that the lever height is not adjusted properly. This is not an exact test, but give the unit a little shake and if you hear a rattling sound... even a tiny one, that is another indication. If the unit is new and you bought it from a LDS, just to make sure, I would bring it to them along with the first stage you will be using it with and ask them to tune it to the intermediate pressure that your first stage puts out. Having it tuned to the first stage is not a bad idea anyway.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out.

2 things...(1) did they have any more & (2) add some WD 40??..j/k'ing...I'm betting it's cause it's new......

There is often a bit of stress on the diaphragm when it is first installed. Once it gets wet and gets used a bit it normally goes away.

The purge button thing makes sense as the purge contacting the dipahragm will dampen the vibration.

The thing to watch for is to be sure that you do not have to depress the purge button too far to initiate air flow. If that is the case, it means the lever is too low and the working range of the valve assembly will be restricted limiting air flow. If there is too much play, take it to an Aqualung dealer to have it adjusted.
