I am a novice diver living in Chicago Illinois. Just got back from an awesome trip to Cozumel! I came back not wanting to end my diving season, so I am now working on my advanced open water and drysuit cert so I can do some cold water wreck diving here in Lake Michigan. I need to take advantage of whats nearby, because I can't afford to keep going back to Cozumel! I hope to learn some good insights from this board.

Welcome to the board from a fellow Chicago diver. Its good to see you're getting a dry suit, take advantage of all the great wrecks in Lake Michigan. Have you ever dove the Great Lakes before?

:mostlysun Hello there Dean, my name is Matt and I wanted to welcome you to the community. I think it’s the best board on the internet for divers. The people on here make it a really friendly place. It’s a great place to see what’s going on with divers. Just wanted to make you feel welcome! If you’d like to chat, please PM me. Take care. :butnhome:

No, not yet. Going to Haigh quarry on Halloween weekend for my AOW and drysuit cert, then I'm ready. If I'm lucky, I can do a "tropical paridise" maybe once a year, but with Lake Michigan around, I hope to do a lot more diving than that!

Thanks Brad, I appreciate the reply. I did my open water at Haigh, and will do my AOW and drysuit there as well on Halloween weekend. I think they close down after that. I'll be more than happy to give you a buzz in the future for local dives!

The first time you see a wreck eerily materializing out of the murky greenish water of Lake Michigan will totally blow you away. At least that's how it was for me.
