OK, you all have dove with someone who can actually speak clearly underwater and be understood. Are you one of the few? If so, tell us about your technique. We're all ears!

hubby has a rebreather and i can hear him perfectly underwater

his excuse for not hearing me underwater is that i dont have a unit - he has no excuse for not hearing me when above the water though ;)

It's more learning to hear and understand than learning to speak. I can understand almost everyone when they6 speak. Few people can understand me.

I have to try that...but I think I will bring an extra glove. I like dry hands.

Some do it by pulling down their masks and speaking into the air pocket in the mask.

My wife and I can communicate (sort of) by simply removing the reg and shouting (screaming?) into the water column. If I pronounce each word carefully and am no more than about 4 feet away, she can understand me and vice versa. Like everything else, it's no big secret - it just comes with practice.

John, I have a nice inexpensive set-up Timeliner and I use often....2 soup cans with one end and labels removed of course, couple good sized buttons and a 20ft. line of good quality string....you get the idea. :eyebrow:

Yup! and above the water selective amnesia helps me too..... "I heard you darling, but forgot...":D

I just talk loudly right into my regulator and my girlfriend can understand most of what I say. When she tries this I can only pick up bits and pieces, but I will get the general idea.

Could a moderator delete this thread before my wife reads it and decides to talk to me underwater. She is a good buddy and all but sometimes a guy needs a break.
