I just bought a new Transpac and my dealer recommended the old style weight pockets because they are more durable than the QLR model. I carry about 24 lbs lead.

I haven't tried out yet but Since the 32 lb pockets are so large, what do you suggest to stop the weights possibly shifting around. I think I'd like to keep the weights towards the rear of pocket to help balance on surface with Venture wing, that is, don't want face in water if possible.

Thanks in advance. The Transpac fits me like a glove and everything is where it should be. Excellent product.

The only time I felt weight shifting was when I tried to do the acrobatic swims with the sea lions. When I did the barrel rolls, I can feel the weight pockets flapping a bit, but for normal diving, I don't feel anything.

With 24lbs of lead going into the 32lbs pockets, you don't really have that much room left over for shifting, not to mention the soft weight pouches all tend to congregate to the bottom of the pockets anyway.

Hi,

I wish you had the opportunity to get the QLR weights. Not sure who your dealer is, but they're giving you erroneous information. Shame because the new QLR pockets have two separate areas within each pocket to keep weight in place.

With the older model pockets, it's best to use the largest soft weight possible in order to stuff the pocket (rather than a bunch of smaller weights that can shift).

Also, the weight pockets should be positioned toward the back of your harness. We have a couple of videos about weight pocket placement that will help. You shouldn't be experiencing tip forward in the Venture wing, unless your pockets have been placed in front of your armpit on the harness. Check out our Solution Finder area and look under BCDs and Harnesses "How do I weave a weight pocket onto my harness?" and BCDs and Harnesses "How do I fit a TransPac"...second video titled "TransPac Fitting - Adjusting Sideplates"

I hope this helps. I'm glad to read you like the new gear. Let me know if you have any further questions. I'm happy to help further with any gear configuration modifications.

Best,
Kathleen

Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for your response. I quote "word for word" what my Canadian dealer wrote to me:

"In speaking with John (my distributor) and Leanne (vice pres at Diverite), they’ve both suggested going with the classic style, as it’s a better quality than the new model.

John had a pair come in and wasn’t happy with the quality. It’s the same Quick release that Hollis/Aeris/Oceanic use….I’ve had 2 pair of pockets break, so I’m not too confident in them myself."

And yes I did watch your excellent videos, they were very helpful in making sure that everything was installed properly. To be quite honest the above statement from my dealer was quite confusing. I've contacted a second dealer and he's going to try getting to the bottom of this. The second dealer also wants me to install shoulder harness weight pockets (another discontinued product) for maximum stability.

I'm still very happy with the BCD and should have it in the water in a few weeks. I'd like to try out in the pool first to make sure everything works the way it should. The build quality is outstanding, and a side by side comparison puts everything else I've seen to shame.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I will share with Lee Ann, our head of Int'l sales, so she's advised that perhaps there is some misinformation in the pipeline.

Let me know how the test dive goes and if the shifting weight continues to be a problem. We're happy to help you out.

Kathleen
