This should also be known as, 'How to make your buddy flood their mask'. It's one of the great side pleasures of diving! I'm sure there are many stories out there that we could all use and share... so this is my few cents worth.

The easiest is singing underwater. You need a song that the dive buddy will know. A pretty much universal song that I find works really really well is 'You're just too good to be true' a.k.a. 'Can't take my eyes off of you' by Frankie Valli. Pick the right moment underwater, play an 'Air Guitar' (or is that 'Water Guitar?') or even do a jiggle/dance. Doo doo doo dooo dooo daaaa dooo doooo. Then watch em flood. clear. Flood. clear.

Another one is while doing your deco stop, assuming you've both had similar dive profiles and have dive computers, you'll have a few minutes to do your safety stop after a dive. Just before the time is up, invert yourself (upside down). Your buddy will wonder what the hell you're doing upside down. Then when the time comes, your buddy signals 'Up'. You do the same, except your 'Up' is now pointing 'Down'. This confuses the heck out of them.

The only down side is that if you do it well, you'll end up flooding your mask too laughing at your buddy. GREAT!

Laughter is the best medicine!!!!!!!!! The singing part I got from a DM friend, while the second I discovered accidently (I was looking at an anenome at the time). Got any stories? Wanna share em?

Keep smiling

An instructor I use to work with has a tradition known as bottom walking, in which you get upside down and walk along the bottom of the boat. It's funny all by itself, but one time we were bottom walking and he started to do this little dance where he jumped back and forth over the keel doing a little hand jive thing along with it. I laughed so hard, my mask totally flooded, and I forgot I was upside down when I went to clear it! Drank a lot of water, kept laughing, thought I was gonna die! It still makes me grin.
