I'm trying but don't know how to find a deal on a trip, so I'm asking ya'll can help. I'm looking for a week (or so) dive trip to warm waters for the end of summer, traveling from New York. Here's the problem - For me money is tight right now, so I'm looking for an inexpensive trip that my more flush friends would enjoy. They will insist on some creature comforts (e.g., air conditioning, good food) and are used to the quality of diving at places like Bonaire and Caman islands.

Can you think of a 1 week trip (with air) for under a thousand that will keep them happy? Or a website that publishes great packages? Help me out, and you'll have my gratitude.

Steve

Try Xkalak, Mexico. 3 hour drive from Cancun. You will have to rent a car. Go to their website. I understand it was very nice. As far as air conditioning, well every place doesn't need one so talk to your friends. Up under a tree in a hammock chillin' sounds good to me.

Take a look for yourself.

Check out these web sites: Travelzoo.com, Site59.com, Luxurylink.com, skyauction.com

Tim - I know about Site 59 and Travel Zoo, but for dive trips? It seems it is the dive part of the trip that doubles the cost. Brownie - yes, my friends NEED their air conditioning. Still, I'll check it out - thanks.

Steve, for under a thousand Cozumel or Bahamas are the only two destinations that spring to mind. If you find a decent hotel/ air package at the right price, get it, then book the diving directly with the dive shop of your choice.
Alternatively, I could recommend where to shop, but last time I did that i got myself in trouble!! ;)

Chel - you in trouble? now how can that be - I don't believe it. Thanks for the two tips. Sounds like Roatan is a serious bargain, but when you factor in airfaire...I think the best I can find Coz for is about $1200 for 8 days, if you include eating well, a nice hotel, and lots of diving. I agree getting the best price (value) seems to be doing what you said - getting an air/hotel package, booking the dive package separately, and using restaurants / hotel fridge.

We are diving Costa Rica for $300 flight, and $500 dive and hotel

Oh, and yes there is A/C, I have a friend like that too!

Some of the best airfairs are to Cabo San Lucas. Safe place to visit and great summer Diving.Check out www.baja-dive.net good prices and lots of experence.

Kent - don't leave me hanging, buddy - give some details! PM me if you must, but what, where, when, how?
