Ask people you know for referrals. Outside of that, read reviews online. The questions you ask them are based on your experience level, what you'd like to see, and whether or not you need to rent gear. Remember to ask if they require certification cards so you have one with you.

That's a great question! When we've gone to new locations I always go to ScubaBoard and Trip Advisor and look at recommendations. Our dive buddies have been diving much more than we have so we use their recommendations many times. If you belong to a dive club, talk to the members and they'll be able to give you good information. Wherever you go....having a great time. Happy Bubbles!

Decide on the area(s) you want to visit in the country. Google dive shops in the area. Check out websites and e mail them to see if they meet your objectives. Ask on ScubaBoard (in the appropriate sub forum) for advice from those who may have visited/used the shops in question. I only did this once, but it worked well on my trip to Panama.

Since you are mentioning other countries, sometimes language can be an issue, but corresponding with them ahead of time will let you know and we always ask. We don't speak French, but dive in locations where the locals all do, so we sometimes encounter this but it's never been a big issue, just something to keep in mind.

We read all reviews we can find, looking for our specific likes/dislikes, and often will message people who have posted reviews to get more information. Always found that helpful too.

When we have done our own research, and chosen a dive op accordingly, we have always had really great experiences. Have fun!!
