I know this is an imprecise exercise, and there are lots of calculators out there. But I'm curious about what general lift range my wife will need in a BC for cold water diving.

Unfortunately, I don't know the buoyancy of her gear. But if anyone has a ballpark idea of what she'd need, I'd appreciate the input.

She wears a size 8 7/5 mil. merino wool lined wetsuit (Pinnacle) with a hood and merino lined gloves, and 7 mil booties. She usually dives AL80s and wears a size small BC.

What's the minimum lift she'd need? I have a possible lead on a BC with 20 lbs. of lift, but I'm not sure that's enough for anything but warm water diving.

Here's a pretty good discussion about how to figure out the lift you need.

20 lbs is almost certainly going to be inadequate for cold water diving.
