ok so almost exactly two weeks ago i was in Australia diving on the Barrier reef, i was on a 3 day 2 night dive boat and did 10 dives in those 3 days/more like round 42-48 hours from the time of the first dive till the time of the 10th and final dive. anyways, i sat out the 11th and final dive to give myself a full 24 hours before flying from cairns to Sydney but on the airplane very soon after ascending the joint in my elbow started to become very sore and i felt a definite tingling in the right hand. i didn't want to worry about it until it got a bit worse toward the end of the flight and i started feeling it in my right shoulder and a mild bit of tingling on the side of my face. i asked the flight attendant for a doctor and they gave me oxygen for the last 20 mins of the flight right before and as we ascended. Stupidly, i did not go to see a doctor about it after arriving in Sydney figuring that since i returned to normal altitude i should be fine and since i no longer had that pain. I am not back and studying in Fiji again and i guess my question is. How long should i wait before i go scuba diving again? or what, if anything should i do? i no longer have any of the pain or tingling. am i alright? i have been stressing out about this a lot recently and i guess i am looking for a bit of peace of mind. i sincerely appreciate any and all help.

You can probably 'report' your own post and ask that the thread be moved. Good luck!

Actually, no. Dive Medicine where I found this and where I'm assuming you originally posted was indeed a pretty appropriate place for medical questions. Dr Deco, Ph.D. is for questions about diving science and hyperbaric decompression models (i.e. the theories and math used to generate tables and program dive computers).

The FAA supports 24 hours between diving and flying and SSI states 24 hours if the cabin pressures are going to be above 8K.

DAN says 24 for recreational diving and 24-48 for deco dives.

How do you know you were bent and not suffering from another ailment?

If you're in Suva, you should go to either Dr. Ali at the Suva private hospital (my first choice) or Dr Semesa at the CWM. I'm not sure if it's too late to do anything now. One of my guests had mild bends (after a 12m dive!) - I suspect that dehydration was a large factor, as she'd only just arrived in Fiji. We put her on O2 and they had a look at her in the hospital (Lautoka) but consulted with Dr Semesa. They released her and we kept her out of the water for a week, but mild symptoms recurred after the first shallow dive.
We phoned the UK and were told that with those conditions they would have put her in the chamber. It was too late now, so stay out of the water for 2 - 3 weeks and drink lots of liquids was their advice.
Hope this helps.

Hi Tyler,

While there was no diagnosis or treatment of DCI, what is described sounds much like an event of DCS. As such, the following guidelines are worth consideration:
