Did you learn anything about yourself?

I realized that I am okay for about 40 minutes and then I get nuts. (not recent)

Then I settle down. talking helps. If you are with someone who thinks it is funny, you will feel mad at them, but better overall.

I learned that I should glance at the fuel gauge on commercial boats, ever-so-casually, before getting in on the drift.

I learned that I would not like to be out there longer than an hour. I wonder which hour would be the worst? I think you probably cycle through various stages. Focusing on conversation is the only thing that helps me.

I learned that you probably should not drift with someone you don't like a lot.
Being adrift with someone funny is a huge blessing.

When I was getting certified AOW, my instructor led us the wrong way on a drift (I suppose I have to share half the blame). The current was barely noticable so we weren't swimming against current, but the other group in the boat swam the other direction along the reef, etc. So we surfaced in the middle of nowhere, couldn't see the boat, in the middle of a high-traffic area.... I managed to keep my cool but I was very, very, nervous. We each took a fin off and waived it as high as we could as we came up to the high part of the swell and eventually they found us. Took about 40 minutes though. No fun.

Oh the power of a 6' orange SMB...

I wonder if there is a market for a helium dispenser. You can float a balloon up high, to mark your spot. Heck, maybe I'll make one big enough to lift the whole diver out of the water!

Does trimix include helium??

Just did, trimix has helium, nitrogen and oxygen.

I did 15 minutes with another DM that had matching air consumption. I think after 5 minutes alone I would get really antsy.

Cheers.

I'm guessing she was on a drift dive and when it came time for the boat to come picker her up it was OOG.

To make sure they will have a non-fuel starved engine just when it's time to pick you up.....

...kind of how the experienced skydiver will look at the trim (takeoff range), control lock (removed) and fuel selector (both) before climbing into a Cessna.....purely self preservation!

All the best, James
