can you subscribe to a thread w/o posting to it? If you want to follow it for some reason but really don't have any "value" to add with a post?

click on "thread tools" then subscribe.

You got it, glad you worked it out for yourself - plenty of buttons back there 
. You can choose to just have it show up in your subs without email notification if you like - i chose to turn the email thing off as i was getting 100's per day.
