I'm new to this website. New to diving June 2010 and LOVE IT of course. We are going to be diving in Lake Michigan and Lake Superior this summer. Have been waiting many years to be able to do this.

Around here a lot of the dive pros do the Californian surfer wave, ie. extend your thumb and little finger, and curl all your other fingers back and then rotate your shake your wrist a couple of times.

That's actually the hand signal I try to get my students to use to say "this is cool!" :cool2:instead of thumbs up:shakehead:.
 
ya, it's called a Shaka, Hawaiian thing for hang loose or whatever. I do that all the time for just about anything, and try to get the students I work with to do it as well so they don't give thumbs up.
If you're on a boat, don't wave too frantically or in a huge arc because it could be mistaken for a distress signal
