Actually, if I may don one of my other hats of pedantry, either it's an acronym or it's pronounced D. I. N. Acronyms are pronounced (i.e. as words), whereas initialisms such as "CIA" or "FBI" are not pronounced (as words) and therefore are not acronyms.
