Yes to all of the above and add drooling over dive travel magazines. Info on the board is pretty great too!

spankey:
how do you plan your next diving trip?

somewhere you havent been?
the price?
word of mouth?
location & activities?

In addition to your comments, I also research this board as well as undercurrent.org

We have a list of places we want to go. We check out normal rates for the destinations. When we have vacation time we put that week in the computor for the places we are interested in, and go with any one that happens to have a special deal for that period. Also, we go "off season" when possible. This usually refers to times when most people do not travel. The diving is still good. Less crowds and better service at resorts. They keep full staffs but less people to cater to.

Step one for us was to sit down with the calander and really plan. We are now booked out thru Dec of 07.

1. Trying to go to more remote, less traveled destinations
2. Don't repeat destinations
3. Plan trips to coincide with an "event", coral spawning, arrival of whale sharks, etc...
4. Look for smaller, more custom vendors that are willing to give you more freedom in your dive profiles.
5. As mentioned above avoid going durring major holidays for us and other countries.

To pick destinations best advice comes from other divers. We find divers from other parts of the World can give you great insight to dive locations. We review all the dive mags, surf: Scubaboard, scubadiving; undercurrent; wetpixel; & digitaldiver.net
