How do pufferfish puff?

Just curious. Where do they get the air from to inflate their bodies? Is it even air? Anyone knows the mechanism by which they puff themselves up?

They do use air if landed, and it is apparently difficult for them to deflate in this case, if thrown back. So they sometimes do not survive a fishing incident.
