I've been an instructor for a long time now and as an instructor I always had people to dive with cause I worked out of a shop. But the shop is gone and I dont really want to work for another one so I am wondering if most people around here just book themselves on a boat and go or what? I started a dive group before the shop closed to give some of the people that dove out of there an oppertunity to continue diving with each other.

But I guess we are having a difficult time recruiting more people to dive, which is strange to me cause we dive so much and it seems like people would jump at the chance to get involved with us. But appearently I am mistaken... So please explain to me how you plan your dive trips?

I've never had any issues just showing up at a charter by myself and finding a buddy there. Some people don't like that as you're never really sure who you're going to be buddied up with. You can always try posting in your regional forum to see if there's anyone interested in joining a group, or even just interested in doing a few dives.

try and form a local dive group, friends and family also make good buddys

You can always do what I did: Get people at your current job cert, OR Start you own local forum! And advertise it on the paper and just watch. Thats where almost all my buds come from nowadays.

I joined a club and dove with several groups. I kept in touch with the good divers with similar interests. I also keep in touch with good divers I have met from dive classes over the years.

Good luck, it's annoying when you can't find a buddy to take advantage of a great dive day.

I never show up on a boat without a reliable buddy. For the same reasons, I do not buy lottery tickets

I'm lucky enough to have a wife that dives, so for local diving I have a built-in buddy.

Don't always dive with her though, and I have drawn divers from my work and social contacts.

On trips, we pick a destination, research out a decent dive op and book seats on the boat. Only very rarely are we dissapointed with the group of folks we end up with.

All the best, James

We do have a group but this board will not let me post it but it is in my signature if you want to cut and paste it to check us out!

Just wanta Dive with good divers and make new friends!
Not selling anything!
