Hi there I just got a BCD with an Atomic SS1 Safe-second. What is the preferred cleaning method for this reg after an ocean dive?

Thanks!

Just soak it in clean FW. It can be soaked with or without the 1st stage attrached. There is nothing in a 2nd stage that will be harmed by a FW soak. Just make sure it is dry (or put under pressure) when you attach it to the rest of the regulator so water can not get inside the 1st stage. Don't forget to soak the LP connector also.

One of the good things about the SS1 is that it's so easy to remove from your BC. Just unscrew it and run lots of water through with every combination of button presses you can come up with. Cleans it out real well. While it's off, fill your wing with water a few times and dump. Then blow a little air in there with your mouth and leave to dry. Easiest BC and second stage cleaning I've ever seen.

Excellent, thanks much! (wow, in less than an hour I already have my question answered! awesome!)

Why take it off the BC? I just dump the saltwater, put freshwater in with a hose, inflate orally and then drain the freshwater out while holding BOTH the inflate and deflate buttons. I then soak it in abucket of freshwater overnight with my other regs.

It's just easier and quicker to remove from the BC. It screws on and off in less than 5 seconds.
