I recently purchased a new Genesis Recon back inflate "tech style" BC and the only thing I don't really like about it is the plastic tank strap lock handles and the stiffness of the webbing. In fact, the webbing is so stiff that I am finding it difficult to get the tank secure enough so that it won't slip. There are two straps and I've even tried wetting down the webbing first but I'm still not too happy. Two questions:

1. Is there any way to soften the tank strap webbing? or...
2. Is there any way I can change the straps out completely and replace them with straps with steel handles and if so (OK, a third question) where can I get the materials to do so?

I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks all!! Dive Safe and Dive Happy!

The only way to soften them is to dive them, over time the material will give in the water.

I have never had issues with the straps on mine, the rubber pads should help with the tightness and there is no need to replace them, BUT if you really want to, they take standard cam-band -- but can be a pain to replace.

Take a look a this page... I use the "scubapro style".. Love it. (Not affiliated with Dive Rite Express, it's just the one I bought from...).

I always take the tank straps out of the BC and soak the straps in the water. Just leave them in the water as long as you want.
