Hi folks

I did some shore dives in the prescot area in over the weekend and found the vis in the river to be a fair bit worse than other times I've been there. Maybe 10-15 feet.

Was wondering how things faired upstream, in the Kingston and Brockville areas?

Maybe the warmer June waters have also boosted the algae/plankton too ?

It is the rain. If it has rained in the last 1-3 days the viz sucks. The harder it rains the worse the viz. That is the general rule for the upper St.Lawrence river.

Hey, 10-15 feet is wonderful viz! Then again, I'm used to quarry diving. :eyebrow:
I'm going to Brockville in September. Would you know what the vis usually is that time of year? I know it's impossible to predict, but would like a general idea of September conditions.

september the viz can range from excellent to terrible depending on, as mentioned above, algae, rain etc. expect 10-15 feet and if you get 30-40 feet enjoy it.
This year the water is warmer than usually, I fully expect the River to be 75 in Late Aug/early Sept

Thanks for the info. I too, hope the viz is good come September.
It sucked in Lake Erie a couple of weeks ago.

Rockport this past weekend was ok for vis (15-20) but certainly not the best.. We dove in Prescott on Friday and the vis was aweful. The problem with Friday was the wind was so strong that all the water in shallow areas was all churned up.

I did Prescott last Wednesday ( one week ago ) and the VIS was poor as everyone has mentioned, however I did the Lillie Parsons on Sunday and the VIS had to be 40 to 50 feet. The current is fairly strong there and that may be why.
