I've got a PT-005S housing for my C-3030. Had the housing (alone) in the pool to test for leaks. It did.

While checking it out I found the O-ring had moved off of its channel. Fine. But as I was drying it, I noticed that the lens has a screw-off "lid". I unscrewed this and found the lens glass with an O-ring. Out of curiosity, I popped the lens out...(are some of you saying UGH!?), and...now I can't put it back in!!

Is it possible...was this designed for only the factory to do? Or is there a way to compress the O-ring on the glass lens and get it into the housing again?

Thanks in advance!

Take a look at my page on that subject which is for the PT-010 housing.

You may have a problem on your hands as I tried to remove/replace the lens on a PT-015 for a friend and could not get it back in its groove as with the PT-010.

Do not overtighten the lens ring while attempting the process or you will strip out the threads on the housing.

Thanks for that!! :D

The concept is that as the ring tightens, the O-ring should seat into its groove?

I tried that for a bit, but was afraid to strip the threads of the housing as you mentioned. With the PT-010 (Basically the same as the PT-005S), did you ever feel as if you were about to strip the threads?

Another thought: You mentioned that one should not apply silicone grease to the threads to avoid unthreading in the future. If I were to grease the threads, tighten the ring, get the O-ring popped in, then remove the ring solely for the purpose of removing the grease, might that make things easier?

Once again, thanks a bunch!

I'm not sure about the concept. I think Oly has a tool that puts the O-ring around the lens.

I would grease the lens and the O-ring to help it seat in the groove. Yoy can always clean the lens after it is back in.

You could try greasing the threads and the lens retaining ring to help thread it on then remove the ring if you get the lens to seat then clean off the threads and replace the ring.

You can also try getting that O-ring around the lens by laying it on a flat surface and trying to work the O-ring on. I think a second person would be needed to hold the lens down while you tried to get the O-ring on. That may be too difficult to accomplish.

It worked using the lens ring. Thank you very much!

I did grease the threads of the ring to get it on, then removed the ring to wipe off the grease. Left it in the pool for an hour last night, no leaks.

May I suggest you take a permanent marker and make a line on the lens ring and on the housing in a spot that is easy for you to see. That way you can always take a look to make sure the lens ring has not moved. I did this because I am constantly threading my wet mount lenses on and off.

Don't forget that lens ring may tighten more as you descend on a dive. Mine did.

Great site on PT-010 problem

I poped out the glass window myself, after flooding the cam housing in the pool (fortunatelly, only a few drops came in and the cam survived). Could not get it in again.

Couple of remarks.

- I can wrap the ring around the lens easily. Place the lens on a flat surface, push it down slightly and slide the ring over the lens.

- I found it impossible to put the lens in the housing first and than force the o-ring in the channel. Be carefull, the o-ring damages easily when using home made 'tooling'

- I just put in the lens/ring assembly on the housing and screw up the blue ring tightly. It appears to be water tight.

- In spite of what the site mentions, when I unscrew the blue ring again, the lens/ring assembly pops out again. I cannot get it popped in apparently...

- I experienced that it is possible to damage the screw thread on the housing. In fact if I screw up the blue ring to tight, I feel that it skews: the ring is no longer parallel to the housing. So I screw it just to about the point where that happens. I am about to buy a new housing, since I am not happy with this situation :(.

- As a check to see if the lens is in position: you can see the point where the lens touches the gasket: this ring where glass touches rubber is darker than where it does not. Gently press the lens and you see the dark ring deform.
