Hey,

I am an experienced photographer that shoots primarily topside, although I have an inexpensive sea-n-sea digital camera that I play around.

I have an older Canon 20d that I want to start shooting UW. As for lenses, topside, I mostly shoot prime lenses with large apertures 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.8 . I also shoot some zoom i.e. 70-200 2.8 (which to me would not have an UW application).

I have been looking at the ikelite housing. Because my experience UW as a photographer is limited, I am confused at the domes/ports that would be required. In fact, I have my doubts that the lenses that I currently use may be appropriate. Any advise on lens and dome/port selection?

Help!

Thanks,
jim

You're right, the lenses you have now aren't really meant for underwater work. Have a look at the Pink Link in my signature which takes you to our excellent Sticky on all things underwater photography. Scroll down a little and you will find a list of the lenses that are most commonly used underwater.

Ikelite's site is very good for detailing the ports that go with each lens and/or you can contact a reputable dealer - such as Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros - to help you get a system set up.

I love my Canon 20D set up...it does a great job underwater. If you aren't set on Ikelite, PM me as I have a subal housing (no ports, just the housing) for the 20D still available for sale.
