I am looking for a good mid range hotel in Playa not to far form beach.
I am going with a group and I am only diver so need beach access and close to places to eat and what not.

Also I am interested in Cenote diving. Do I need a cave cert? Are they all caves? are most of the dive shops created equal/
THanks

We have stayed at Hotel Lunata, Riviera Caribe Maya and Aqualuna. My first choice is Lunata followed by Aqualuna. All three are one or two blocks from the beach, right in the heart of the tourist zone of PDC.

You don't have to be cave certified to do a "cavern dive" in the cenotes. A cavern dive will keep you in sight of an exit to the surface. Still need a cave certified guide. Looking at your profile, you might want to tell the shop you dive with your experience level and interest in cavern diving. Do a couple of ocean dives with them to see if your skills are up to the task. Cavern dives require excellent buoyancy and you will be going very slow. It can be a challenge for new divers and you don't want to hurt the caves.

Thanks for the info. I will look up the hotels. I think a nice simple hotel is what I am looking for. I keep adding dives and get better at floating.

There are a lot of less expensive hotels in PDC, but my wife has a mold allergy and these three pass the test. The three I recommended are in the $75-110 price range, a couple blocks from the beach with plenty of places to eat.
