Hope someone here can help with some recommendations.

My son (14, PADI Open Water) and I (PADI DM) are hoping to go diving in Sharm this summer (end of July - beginning of August). Trying to find a hotel had been somewhat of a nightmare as virtually ALL hotels reviews on Tripadvisor seem to have, along with the good reviews, some awful ones complaining about dirty rooms and dodgy food that led to food poisoning.

I've dived in Sharm before a few times, but that was a good few years ago, before there were so many hotels there!

Ideally what we'd like is somewhere OK (basic is fine, as long as the food won't kill us and the room is not disgusting), and a dive centre that could offer a PADI Advanced Open Water course for the youngster and diving for me whilst he's busy with his course (then some diving together).

Camel Dive centre and hotel seems alright, but they only offer SSI courses, which I am unsure would be as accepted worldwide as a PADI certification.

Any recommendations would be very gladly received!

That is not true at all. SSI is one of the most well-known certification agencies around the world. There is no issue with accepting their cards at all. Dive operators want to see your money, so the name of the C-card agency isn't as important as having one and having $$$$$$.

My vote goes to Oonas Dive Club. Beach front, at one end of Naama Bay, so you can mostly avoid the hustle and the bustle, if you so wish.
Small, basic hotel & restaurant, plus dive centre. Affordable, well-run, well-established. They do dive packages (diving/courses + stay). My son did his DM course there a couple of years ago. He was very pleased. It's run by brits and many of their clients are British, too.

Thanks for that! I'll have a look.
