I have an atomic z2 2nd with a mares octo this 1st stage is the 7 lp and 2 hp ports. I need som ideas and maybe pics to help with hose routing. I have computer console and lp inflator with 2nd lap for my dry suit. My dive shop recommended using the bottom port for octo. But having a hard time getting it on take. Your thoughts would be help full.

It will really only be helpful for you if you let us know how long your hoses are, and how do you keep your spare 2nd stage (necklace, right/left side, pocket).

My main is on a 32" octo on a what looks like a 40" also keep my octo on a clip on right side under my arm.

Put the primary reg on a 5 to 7ft long hose off the bottom port. Tilt the reg slighty so that points down at your right kidney. Put bungie on the octo and route that off a right lp port with a 26" hose hanging under your neck. Route the drysuit and BC power inflator off to left sided lp ports and the gauge on a 22" HP hose off the left side.

You want to add the part where he should train himself in the proper use and mindset for the long hose?
The last time I gave my reg w/ long hose and bungee backup to a diver with no prior experience or instruction and said "Jump in" was never.

They're, I think you should place the Console HP hose on the left HP port. Dry suit and inflation hose should be somewhere on the left LP ports, you will have to wear your kit and see which port helps to route the hoses best. Primary reg and octo should be on the right.

Off the bat I think the drysuit hose should be behind the BC inflator hose, since the drysuit hose is coming under your arm it can afford to have that extra lenght in routing. It would be awkward in my mind to have it switched around, where the BC hose has to twist over the drysuit hose to reach over your shoulder into the BC inflator.

What you need to do is look at it yourself, in a mirror. You don't want to see your hoses strained pulled when connected. This means your hoses are too short or your port is too far for the hose to be cleanly routed. If the port is too close or the hose is too long, you will have a large bow of hose coming out the first stage, before bending into it's connection on the BC. It's not that complicated.

The octo routed from the bottom port may be beneficial in a clean storage routing to your BC, but if you deploy it, does it allow you to route cleanly over your shoulder to the OOA diver? That's something you will have to see your yourself; and you don't have to be on a dive to see it. Just wear your kit, and donate your octo to an imaginary diver. If the hose routing is awkward when you donate, then it's not in the right port.

Depending on the OP's height/size, those hose lengths may not be ideal. For me the 26" reg hose would be too long and the HP hose too short.

If you decide a long hose & bungee backup are the way to go (you won't be wrong), then get someone to help you get the lengths of hoses right for you and train you in the use of that configuration.
