I am assembling my regulator (Zeagle DSIV/ZX din) and adding a Dive Rite brass SPG....The reg came with the secondary already attached , including a hose protector...Should I add a hose protector to the SPG hose? I feel that I should, as well as the octopus...Also, any problems with using an Envoy octopus with this setup? Any information greatly appreciated...;)

To clean under those hose protectors your gonna need to move them down the hose a couple of inches. you may very well eliminate the corrosion and gunk that collects there but, your putting alot of stress on the hose and its connection to the fitting. So your stressing the connection that the hose protector is supposed to be protecting, seams counter productive doesnt it?

They do look pretty though dont they :)

I have seen divers post on here that hose protectors can conceal potential 'weak' spots or problems with the hose itself..My stuff is brand new, so I expect at least a good year before any worries over defective or failing hoses...I just want to prolong as long as possible the life of my hoses, the $2.00 for each protector seems like a cheap investment; I just dont want to conceal any potential problems with hoses, I'm wondering how common this problem is...I presume that it's quite rare...I think that (absent any real good reasons otherwise) I'll add hose protectors to my hoses...MR

I would rather have a crack in a hose and see it in time to fix it than not see the crack and have it be a problem on a boat or any place far from a dive shop.

You can always just by a Poseidon reg. and get that high quality 100% rubber hose that is included.
