Last dive was very good, and really makes you feel like you know the Rouses. I have it on audio tape, and listened to it while commuting. It also teaches you about not getting too complacent and feeling nothing can happen to you. A good lesson in using common sense.
Deep Decent was good too. Another very similar (slightly newer) book is Fatal Depth. It also covers some of the deaths of the Doria, but more specifically the ones of 98 and 99 when Doria death seemed like an epidemic. It takes you a little closer into the lives of the victims and makes it a littler more personal. However, it is even MORE bias than the other book, and mostly just covers the Seeker. I read them both and if I had to recommend only one it would be Deep Decent because it covers a broader range of events, even though it omits some of the personal life which helps to get to know the victims. On the other hand, Deep Decent shows some very graphic pictures of some of the victims being brought out of the water, and makes for a very good wake up call, and emphasizes the reality of the risks in this type of diving.
All good reading and they help you to think, regardless of skill level and experience, anyone can make mistakes, panic, or just have health (or other issues) beyond control and parish. These are Sobering thoughts, but vital to remaining non-complacent.
Hope to see some more recommendations for other good books.
Happy reading. :14:
