Is the Hilux much more capable on the dirt roads in Bonaire than the 2200? Anyone have a preference for one over the other?

After doing the national park once, and the "shortcut" road back from Karpata once, I prefer to stay on paved roads. The Hilux was very capable on both, but it's the tires and chance of a blowout that worry me.

Hilux was fine last time I was there, including the park. (Though do take it slow...)

2wd or 4wd? I've not been to Bonaire, but I betthe public roads are no worse than the rural farm tracks on farms around here, if 4wd, I'm quite confident that BOTH of them are more capable of travel than a typical road paved travellers offroad driving skills.

I'm biased towards the Hilux as I have one myself as farm hack.

I've used the Hilux on several research expeditions on some BAD roads in Peru and Chile and think it's a great, rugged vehicle. As always, it's possible to blow tires, so take it easy.

4WD is not needed here. Both Mazda and Hilux work...hilux definitely being the better of the two.

Both are fine although the Hilux is a little bit better. The TIRES should be your main concern. Make sure what ever vehicle you chose make sure the tires have good thread on them. Also make sure you checkout the vehicle completely for dents, scratches, spare tire and the jack.
