The largest surf I have seen on this coast is 40' at Salt Point (Sonoma County) in 1964.

The surf was slowly increasing Saturday - yellow flag day

Today, Sunday, it is reported to be increasing in size--much larger than Saturday

Big Sur coast had that eerie foreboding look to it as the sun set behind dark clouds. South wind is howling and a moderate rain falls at the moment. I can hear the swell building...

I'm in Monterey right now. Surf is large but not extraordinary for winter. I hear the Mavericks surf competition was cancelled because the surf is too high -- usually it is because it isn't big enough.

Lots of surfers at Maverick's right now, but the surf is "only" 22.5'.
