Got my start diving at the now infamous Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay Cuba. You had to find stuff to do or crawl into a brown bottle there.

I found Diving and kept busy and out of trouble. I learned in 1980 and then took a quarter century off. My gear didn't make it through a period of no money.

Freind of mine had just gotten his C-Card and was bitching that he couldn't find a dive buddy. I told him that I was a certified diver. So we started diving 2 years ago.

Gitmo is some of the best diving in the world. 60 ft vis was so-so. Guys who were stationed there would take R&R to Grand Cayman and were dissapointed. At Kittery Beach we had days that the Vis was marked with a * as it was more or less unlimited. I have seen a school of tuna that were at least a quarter mile away.

But now I dive fresh water....20 feet is WOW!

Welcome to ScubaBoard! Where I live - southeastern Brazil - we dive salt water and vis is usually worse than 20 feet. And temps are low too! But then, there's always macro, and 5 mil wetsuits :)

When possible, we travel to the northeastern region where temps and vis are really better, or to some diver's paradise, like Cozumel or San Andres/Providence and experience the wonders of the coral reef. And then, back again to cold waters and low vis for more macro. But it's always fun anyway and we make a lot of friends!
