Hi folks,

I've got a Seaquest Balance BC with integrated weight pouches, and like 99.9% of all BC's I've seen, it's jet black in color. I was considering spraypainting my weight pouches bright yellow or day-glow orange (just the parts not visible when you're wearing them) so that if I ever have to drop them in an emergency they would be easier to recover. I do mostly lake diving, and a black weight belt in the weeds/rocks is nearly impossible to see.

Before I run down to the Home Depot, does anyone know what type of paint is suitable for this purpose? Must be flexible and withstand salt water. Perhaps a paint for outdoor canvas awnings?

Thanks, Troy

I think you should dye those pouches rather than spray paint. The color doesn't fade and peel off like spray paint.

You might want to get some reflective material & have it sewn to the pouch on the inside. then you'd only see it when you pulled out the pouch, and they would be easy to see if you dropped 1.

No paint is going to hold up well under the conditions in question.

Dye, ink, or some sew-on option are your best bets. I've also seen people who use those puffy t-shirt paints that hold up to machine washing, to mark their gear. Not quite the same as a full paint job, but they do make it in some pretty bright colors.

As far as dye you need the right kind for the material but I don't think it would work even then, can't dye over black and get a bright color unless you do a step to remove the existing color first. The sew on idea sounds better. You might do ok with paints intended for fabric but you need to look in a craft place not Home Depot.

Ink could work. I used to live near a printing shop that had a container of magenta ink on a delivery truck start leaking a half mile away, it showed up well on the black pavement and lasted for years of traffic driving over it - much longer than the lines painted on the road! You could follow the trail right to their loading dock.
