So,
here I am, just joined Scubaboard so Etiquette & common sense says to introduce myself.
I'm 47 (how did that happen?) Ex Army & the father to four fantastic kids. 2 boys, 2 girls.
I only took up diving about 2 years ago so that I could have something to do with my 2 oldest sons.
They are both divers. Jordan the oldest at 22 is a BSAC Diver with PADI Nitrox & Dry suit.
Joshua is 20 & is a NAUI Diver with PADI Nitrox & Dry suit.
They are both in the Army so it made sense for me to learn to dive so we could have "Quality Time" together before & after they're tours/deployments.
However, once I'd struggled, & I mean struggled through my PADI referral I booked a nice Red Sea holiday to do my open water dives & finish my Certification.
But my Airline, Excel went bust. So I couldn't go. As it turned out it was the best thing that could have happened to my diving. I ended up finishing my Cert here in the murky waters of the UK. My log entry for my first open water dive reads "Vis 3 meters. Like diving in Coffee, you lied Cousteau! You LIED!!" But I got to get the dive basics right, thats for sure.
I carried on, first though my OW. Then I finished my AOW, 2 dives in UK & 1 dive in Turkey while working out there & finally 2 in the Red Sea., Log entry for that one is "AOW, 18 meters Vis, Fish everywhere! Ah Jacques, how could I doubt you?!?"
The rest as they say is history (And expensive!) I've done more courses, last one IANTD Rec Trimix. I'm now happy in my new playground. I've dived in UK, Spain, Gibraltar,Turkey, Malta & Egypt. Which was the best? My first dive with my two Sons. It was in a Lake in England called Wraysbury. It was Cold, 12 degrees. Depth was only 8(ish) meters, vis was 5 meters & all we saw was an old Taxi, a Camper Van & a rather Mad looking Pike. But to share it with 2 of my kids & after them to say "Not bad for an old fat man" Yep, best dive off my life.............so far, my 16 year old daughter Jessica has just finished her PADI referral so the story continues, we'll see where it goes...............
