Hi everyone! I finally got motivated and joined the SubaBoard. woohoo!

I am just now getting setup to do some diving more that I have been in the past year. I completed my check out dives about a year ago in the Keys, but have been busy with a new job, online school, and 5 kids.

I purchased a used boat a few months ago that was used mostly for diving from a guy down and Florida; so have been spending most of my spare time on it. I hoping to start getting some shallow water wreck dives in here in the next few months. If anyone has some favorite dive sites around the Morehead or Wilmington NC areas, I would be exited about any information.

Welcome. There are a number of you in Efland these days. Out of Morehead I think I like the wrecks east of the shoals best personally.

Thanks lulubelle.

Do you think the viz is better on those wrecks because they are away from the inlet? What is the closest wreck each of the shoals that you would suggest in the September time frame?

Again, thanks for the info!

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I have only been diving here a couple of years and have not made multiple dives on all of the wrecks. My understanding from others is that the vis is probably a bit worse on those wrecks east of the shoals but they are less frequently visited as they are harder for the boats to get to. Last time I dove the Caribsea we dropped and in maybe 30 feet of vis counted 30-40 Sand Tigers in formation facing into the current. I also picked up tons of teeth.

Post a thread under the NC wreck divers forum and you should get some good input from divers and captains. So far, my favorite of all is the Caribsea but the boats can't always make it out there. Trying to get out to the Cassimir and Proteus this month. Always enjoy the Spar as it is a given for loads of Sand Tigers. I'm burned out on the sub.

Hi also new Diver from North Carolina, I live in Salisbury but have a son in school in Wilmington. Not to steal your intro thread ,but to answer one of the questions.I dove with Aquatic Safari last Monday my first dive outside the quarry checkouts. We dove the wreck "The Hyde". It was a blast vis was great, big sand toger sharks, I am hooked!
It wasn't that shallow the wreck sit's upright at 83 feet. The dive outfit made it a very easy dive though,
I thought I would reccommend them to you.

Thanks kenbert61 and lulubelle for the info!

I've only dived in the Keys and Jamaica and only nurse sharks. I'm a bit nervous about the sand tigers, but it sounds like they are fairly docile. I can't wait!!

Welcome to the board Ken. I grew up in Salisbury and all my family still live there.
