In my last post I mentioned that I had not dived for over 20 years, I recieved many replies asking what I find different and also to update my profile, The photo in my profile is my bike as I have no photo's of myself that would not scare people.
Differences hmmmmmmmmmm, what the hell is an ocky, where did it come from, you guys have it so easy now, I used to dive with a J valve tank, 1 reg, and depth guage, all this new stuff is great, it makes diving so much easier, and working with your buddy so much easier, I won't go into details but I once ran out of air at 30 metres and had to buddy breathe all the way back up, not a nice experience, however I find with all the new gear out diving is now a lot safer, easier, and more fun - my buddy is my son he is doing the full PADI course and I am doing a refresher, it is absolutely great.

Dive Free, Dive Safe and lets get wet.

Cheers

Welcome back to Scuba. Good to have you here! :D

I think what you are referring to is an "octo" which is scuba slang for an additional second stage that comes off your primary 1st stage. It is available for your buddy to use should h/s run out of air & need to share air. IOW, both you and your buddy would have your own 2nd stage to breathe off in the event of an OOA situation.

Meanwhile, bet you are having a blast taking the course with your son. Awesome! :thumb:

Have fun,
