OK, I am now the proud owner of a nice 21W Salvo can HID:D . I understand I should slip the canister on my BP waist strap to the far right w/ the switch facing upwards. Now the question is, do you hold the light head in the right or left hand? I can see that the umbilical would nicely go over the right shoulder and wrap once around the arm if I hold in my right hand. But if the light head should be in my left hand , how do you route the umbilical cord? Just across your chest (but under a long hose?)?

edit: ah fudge, the title should be HID

Congrats on the light!! I have the same one and I love it.

As to routing to the left hand... well... There are differing opinions. Some like it under the LH, some like it over. DIR used to say under, but now says over, but I have seen good divers who do both. Whichever you do, it should be there habitually so that S drills and such are automatic without having to think about which way you routed the thing.

Oh, and most do use the left hand, but some like the right and tuck the extra cord into their waist strap. Either way, you kind of end up passing it back and forth now and then.

Enjoy!!

Right hand if swimming with the cord under the shoulder, and if slack cord, wrapped around the arm. Left hand if you are scootering, with the cord passing out front of your chest. Some people may give you grief for pointing the switch upward, but if you can reach it fine that is the best thing to do.

makes sense about using right hand w/o a scooter... although would be interesting if I smack my buddy with the light head or singe his pupils in an OOA situation...

As for carrying the canister switch down, I'd be REAL worried of banging up the cord connection and causing a leak as I do primarily boat dives and backrolls.

I use the right hand almost exclusively and hence route the cord underneath the LH.

If you like to pass it back and forth then perhaps right hand or cord over the LH is better for you...

I´d say its a personal preference/divestyle choice but to make sure that you practice s-drills with it routed the way you intend to use it...
