Just found this site today and have had an interesting time reading some of the tips and insights. I am looking for a school which will certify individuals as equipement repair techs. Do the individual company's have their own classes or is there a more general course of study to be found?

Welcome to ScubaBoard! :happywave

I'm not sure which direction to point you in, but wanted to say, "Hi" anyway. Someone should be along soon enough to offer some words of wisdom.

Dive safe!

Christian

P.S. Due to the high volume of new posts in the Introductions and Greets forum, it's not always possible to keep up with all the new posts here. So, please help me out and send me a PM if you post anything you want me to read or repsond to in this forum.

Welcome to Scubaboard! I too, like Headhunter, don't know how to help you. But, this board is made up of divers from around the world so I'm sure somebody can help you.

Hello from Matt,

Welcome to SB! :1poke: I came here to look for help with my scuba diving dream and the response has been fantastic. So, I know you will enjoy being a member here.
There are a lot of nice and informative scuba divers. It's a good place to meet other divers and share experiences and dreams. Take care from Matt. :snorkels:

The manufacturer is the only one who can "authorize" you to service their products. They provide their own training such as it is.

What that means is that regardless of what school you do to it's not likely that you will be able to purchase parts or get service manuals (at least not from the manufacturer).

um as far as i know and i have been looking at learning the same type of things you can usely go in to a dive shop and they might teach you if ya lucky.

I believe that such "schooling" is generaly run by manufactures/distributors and you must be sponsored by an authorized dealer. Also, such qualification does not allow you to obtain parts thru "authorized channels". The industry works very hard to control this.

But don't give up. Dive Rite makes it's sarvice manual and parts available. I think you can find the manual on the Dive Rite Express website. Also, for general scuba repair info, check out : www.airspeedpress.com.

Parts and documentation often show up on ebay.

Good luck.

Hey-take a look around at some of the commerical diving schools. Some offer recreational/commercial service certifications. International Diver's Institute in Charleston, S.C. for example, offers Mares/Dacor classes. I believe-not sure though-that F.S.U.'s diving program provides formal training (?) I work at a dive center part-time, and Brand names often visit the store and present "clinics." Hope I helped!

The manufacturers offer classes in repairing their Gear. I attended all my repair technician classes at last years DEMA.
So if you plan on going to DEMA this year you can do a one stop learning experience for the equipment your shop deals with.

You might want to post your request on Basic Scuba Discussions. I think you'd probably get lots of responses.

Welcome to the board,
Grier
