Hey,

Just figured I would introduce myself and ask a question while I am at it. My name is Will and I am currently living in Oahu, Hawaii. I have a B license in skydiving, am trying to learn to surf, love snorkeling and am really excited to learn scuba. I am leaning towards a PADI Cert which brings up my question. I am new to diving, but not to the world of dangerous/extreme/different sports and I am fully aware what the difference between a good instructor and a bad one can mean for a student later down the line in their experiences. So with that I am wondering where I can find some of the best dive shops/ instructors on Oahu. I will not be able to take the class until April (I am in the military and headed to Wake Island for a few months), but as soon as I am back I'd like to get the ball rolling. I have some close skydiving buddys that also scuba and they are the ones who turned me onto this site. I am also fully aware what a info trap forums can be for people new to a sport/activity so I will keep my postings and questions limited for the time being and ask my questions like "whats the best gear" and "when can I do this" for the instructor I choose.

Anyways I am very excited about becoming part of the this community because I have had such great experiences with my skydiving one and hope to hop right into it. Thanks for reading and look forward to diving with you sometime in the future. Also if you have any questions about skydiving feel free to ask;)

Hey! :admingreet: Welcome, Will. I jumped tandem once and thought it was pretty cool but was very disappointed that I wasn't scared like I anticipated. :dontknow: Where's the butterflies?

Anyway, welcome.

Welcome to the'board!!!
And hopefully the wonderful underwater world.

From a ex-"D" license in skydiving, SCUBA is so different..but both are great in it's own way.
For one the "landings" are so much softer and the dive is slower:D

Will, two helps for you...first, check out your local forum and ask around about great teachers.... Hawai'i 'Ohana - ScubaBoard
Second, for some great tips, drop on down to:

Hope to see you in the water someday...... enjoy!

Aw, really insta gator, no rush? I suppose jumping from 14000 ft and then opening a piece of fabric just isn't intense enough for some people ;) lol just playing, I have heard that before form some of my friends, its just what you're into I guess.

haha Dwaters I don't like the sound of ex- D license lol. I hope your leaving the sport was not because of an accident! Anyways yea I am close to my C (about 20 jumps) but I have really slowed my jump tempo since I got here, the conditions are always so shifty.

Thanks for showin me that forum btw...must have missed it when I did my first look around.

nope, no bad accidents in skydiving....just few close ones.....like a student diver cutting me off while 30' feet in the air...hard landing vs. full collision :depressed:, minor fracture on a night dive landing (7th night dive BTW) and then getting married, kids, etc. kept me away from the dropzone. Still try to get out there few times a year but I love SCUBA more :D
Hope you get that chance to get under the water and fall in love with it as many of us here do. Blue skies!
