I HAVE ONE CLASS TO COMPLETE FOR MY SENIOR YEAR AND THAT IS AND HAS BEEN MY HARDEST SUBJECT - MARINE BIOLOGY. ANYWAY, MY QUESTION IS IF YOU CAN HELP:
WHAT ARE THE FUNTIONS FOR EACH OF THE SCUBA EQUIPMENT

1) MASK
2) SNORKEL
3) FINS
4) KNIFE
5) BUOYANCY COMPENSATOR
6) WEIGHTS
7) COMPASS
8) WATCH
9) DEPTH GAGE

I AM INSTRUCTED TO USE GOOGLE.COM FOR MY INFO BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO CAN/WILLHELP MOST APPRECIATIVE.:confused:

Sounds like quite a marine biology class. Take off your ALL CAPS. Short answers include:

1. Mask provides air pocket in front of eyes allowing vision underwater;

2. Snorkel allows breathing while swimming on surface;

3. Fins allow propulsion and maneuver;

4. Knife primarily cuts line and other entanglements;

5. Bouyancy compensator provides positive bouyancy at various depths;

6. Weight provides negative bouyancy to sink a diver who would otherwise float to the surface; the combination of negative and positive bouyancy allows the diver to (ideally) remain weightless at any depth.

7. Compass allows navigation underwater;

8. Watch provides the duration of the time the diver is underwater, which is important for a number of reasons; and

9. Depth gauge indicates the depth to which the diver has descended.

Your grade will likely suck, however, if this is all the work you do. :doctor: Check with www.excite.com or www.dogpile.com, and there are many other metasearch engines as well. Visit any local dive shop in your area. Good luck with the class.

1) MASK

Human eyes are not made to see in the water. A mask creates an airspace for the eye to function properly in. They have silicone skirts and tempered glass lenses.

2) SNORKEL
Breathing at the surface. They are a long tube (no longer than 13" though or it creates dead air) and they usually have some sort of one-way check valve to help clear water

3) FINS
In-water propulsion on the feet. Very hard to swim without them when wearing scuba equipment.

4) KNIFE
We dive where there is an abundance of marine life and that marine life also attract fisherman. Divers can become entangled in line and this is used to cut out of it (one of many purposes actually.) It is a tool not a weapon

5) BUOYANCY COMPENSATOR
Floatation at surface as well as maintaining neutral buoyancy at depth. When depth increases volume decreases and this compensates for the expanding air in the BCD.

6) WEIGHTS
A wetsuit and the human body can be VERY buoyant so they help us to sink

7) COMPASS
Ued for navigation underwater. If you find the heading of the boat you should have no problem returning to it.

8) WATCH AND DEPTH GAUGE
A Diver can only stay a certain depth for a certain amount of time due to nitrogen build up in the body. We follow a table that tells us how long we can stay at depth and the amount of time we are alotted for that depth. This helps us to follow that.
