I'm a Fish!
Hola:

Now I own a Ikelite housing and the Canon G10, I've been using for 5 dives
but I have a problem:

The knob to use the zoom simply does not reach the zoom button on the camera. The option of returning to Ikelite it is not my first choice . I live in Mexico.

Do you have some tips to make it work?

I use the Canon WP-DC28 housing for almost six month with no problem.. Ikelite a big disappointed. :depressed:

Thank you in advanced.

First make sure the camera is mounted flush with the base plate. Make sure to tighten down the screw and check for gaps between the plate and camera. Second, check to see nothing is blocking the zoom dial from fully extending downwards. Also push down "with some force" and see if the dial will extend farther downward "most dials will extend up and down to allow lubrication and insertion of camera into housing". During the wait period between ordering and eventual delivery of my Ike G10 housing, I scoured the internet for tips and reviews. Unfortunately there have been a few cases on various Ike housings where certain dials or controls were not placed properly into the system. With these cases, some chose to do shims to adjust the camera into position, but most just sent it back to Ikelite. After checking to make sure its not user error, I would send it back to Ikelite. Contact Jean on the Ike section of the photo board and see if they will cover shipping or throw in something for your trouble;)

Let me tell you though. Once you go through this temporary hassle, you will very much enjoy the Ike system. The TTL bulkhead makes pulling off quick action shots extremely easy and the build quality is top notch. The Ike system does have its downsides "bulky / limited wet lens options", but its is made up by its durability, ease of control, TTL bulkhead and excellent customer support.

I have tried and nothing happens. To my bad luck, I have a "lemon Ikelite housing". I did post the same in Ikelite section. Let´s see if Jean can help me in this issue.

Many thanks for your time to answer.

Alf.

With your camera back removed reach inside the housing and hold the shaft end with the zoom control on it.

Now loosen the set screw on the outside knob of your zoom control. Not too much as this screw tightens down into a "scallop" ground into the shaft to hold it tight.

Slide the knob UP a bit and re-tighten the set screw. This should allow the control to penetrate a bit farther DOWN into the housing from water pressure. Now the inside black piece should contact the G10's zoom lever around the shutter button.

You may have to adjust it a couple of times until it just contacts the zoom control of your G10.

If this doesn't work take the knob completely off and see if there is one or two thin black plastic washers under the knob on the OUTSIDE. Remove one, tighten up the set screw which again should allow the control to penetrate DOWN into your housing.

I'll be on Cozumel Sept. 12-19th at the Whyndham. Maybe we can meet for a Cerveza :)

Good luck!

Hey dhaas:

Sure, "cerveza time" sounds great.! now about the housing, like I said, send it back is not my first option, but I think will be my option.
I really appreciate your response.

Gracias for your time guys, and beware of Ikelite.

eagleray09,

Yikes! Now I see what direction isn't reaching.......

Double check one more thing.........

If your camera is totally square on the mounting plate, and the tripod screw is snugged down so the camera can wobble left to right then the only thing I can think is that's a piece from another Canon camera that is thicker than the G10 body front to back. Most have the same zoom ring around the shutter button and your shutter release button looks centered....

I would email Ikelite and include your pics and they can likely MAIL you in an envelope that small piece that is screwed into the shaft end. Sure would be faster and easier than sending the whole housing back..

Your call....

Hope you get it sorted out......
