I just purchased a Nikon D200 camera with a 18-200 lens and SB800 flash. I want to outfit an Ikelite housing and the necessary accessories to enable it for underwater photography but am totally confused about what I need. I know the 18-200 lens won't work underwater so what is a good, all-around lens (if there is such a thing) for underwater photography and what components will I need to outfit it.

Mike

Hey Dive guy, congrats on the purchase!
If you use the search option with the phrase "Nikon D200" you're sure to find tons of threads with relevant information as a lot of people have been getting the Nikon D200.

Don't have a dslr but you're going to need different sized ports depending on the lenses that you're using...

You might want to call or email ikelite and talk to them directly about what you want and need.
Jam is right though, you should read through several recent threads that asked pretty much the same "What's the best lens for my D200" replace D200 with D70 or D50 and for underwater use you'll be using the same lenses regardless of the body.
What you'll probably discover reading the other threads is for wide angle you'll probably want a 12-24 and/or the 10.5 and for macro the 60 or 105.

Thanks for the infor.

Mike

Just bought all this stuff and after reading all the threads. My choice - D200, 12 24mm, 60mm, 125 Strobe, 8" dome and flat port. In retrospect would skip the flat port I use the 8" dome with the 60mm - the flat port has too much magnification for me the 60 in the dome is close enough at the moment. YMMV

Spent a week on the Nekton playing with it and am very happy with the choices and the results.

However I am new at all of this so take my choices with a grain of salt.

Also maybe talk to Ryan at www.reefphotovideo.com

Just a question, why can't you use the 18-200 underwater? I have the cheap Sigma 18-200 for my Canon and it actually has some uses, IMHO.

It may be a question of finding a proper port that will work with the lens. I didn't see it on the Ike port chart nor Aquatica.
