OK, I am new at this digital stuff.

I have the 5060 and the pt-20. I want to set up a strobe. Since I used to shoot a Nikonos, I have a nice Nikonos 105 strobe. I am searching ways to set myself up. I have two options:
#1 keep my PT-20 and find an appropriate strobe like the Inon. It will have a fiber optic connection instead of a TTL. Question-will it only work in a manual setting? Any way for it to work in the camera's automatic setting?

#2 Sell my PT-20, buy an Ikelite housing with the Nikonos conversion sync cable that will attach my Nikonos strobe with the housing. Will this work in the auto setting?
I know i will learn to use all of the manual options, but would like some simple/stupid options as well.

I like the compact size of the Inon strobes, but why spend the money if I have a decent strobe?
Help me set up a decent and cost effective system! Used also woks for me.

The Z220/Z220S will work in TTL if you use Matthias Heinrichs Digital Adapter 2 or Olympus TTL Converter with IR link. See his website: http://www.muenster.de/~matthias/blitz/indexe.htm. Your Nik SB105 should work too... check with Matthias. There is also a hard-wired (sync cord) solution using Matthias' adaptors provided by Michael Finger (German website): http://www.mike-dive.de

No, Ike's C5060 housing with Ike's TTL conversion circuitary only works in TTL with Ike's DS-50 and DS-125 strobes. Your Nik will only work in manual sync.

If the SB105 works reliably with Matthias' adaptor I would say that it is the most cost effective solution for you.

Inon has just released a new strobe, the D-2000. I undestand it to be true TTL in that it can be hard wired to a housing so equipped. I believe the PT-020 has a hard wire connection for a TTL strobe?

I have the D-180 which is the fiber optic connection. It has 4 manual settings as well as several F stop settings (that is not true TTL).

Depending on whom you talk to some say that true TTL is not that accurate and they wind up using manual settings.

The Inon D-2000 has 'mimick TTL' (they call it S-TTL), similar in concept to Matthias' Digital Adaptor: it mimicks your camera's built-in TTL flash. The D-2000 doesn't have any provisions for connecting a sync cord to it.

Comparitive shots (Canon S60) between an Inon D-2000 and Inon Z220 using the Mathias' DA2 http://www.calypsophot.de/d2000_da2/d2000_da2.htm.

I stand corrected.
Thank you ReyeR.

I like the test site comparison but I wonder if that test is the same underwater as water is denser than air?

Do you personally use true TTL and if so are you satisfied with it or do you find yourself using manual settings for optimum results?
