I've had the S95/WP-DC38 camera and housing for over 2 years. Never any problems.
Recently the camera stopped turning on with the on/off button under water.
I dove Sunday and turned on fine on the boat, button makes perfect contact with the camera on/off button. When I got to 90' wouldn't turn on again. When I made my ascent while continuously hitting the white on/off button and reached 38' bingo, turned on without a hitch. Furthermore all the other buttons operate perfectly when camera is on. And camera is as dry as could be no leaks or floods or anything like that.
Wrote Canon and they never heard of any problem like this and they want me to send both the case and camera to them. Needless to say that is not an option.
Has anyone ever heard of this or anything similar? What can I do short of maybe buying another housing, or sending it in (again not really a choice). I don't see how lubricating the button could help it moves fine, no friction, or anything. Again just below 35' does not work?
Thanks.

I wouldn't blame the power button itself, but rather one of the other controls. If one of the other controls gets moved/pushed by the pressure, it might interfere with the function of the power button. The zoom control is notorious for this as it doesn't reset completely back to zero on its own, and with the zoom being slightly pushed in one way, some other buttons don't function right any more. Not saying that your culprit is the zoom control, just using it as an example of what could be wrong. Pay attention to the other controls.

I reckon DFX is spot on. I also was scratching my head one time when the buttons weren't working properly and the fatigued/sticky Zoom button spring was to blame.
