A previous thread, “Your ideal back inflated wing,” ( http://www.scubaboard.com/t85168-your-ideal-back-inflated-wing.html ) got me thinking about the subject of a new wing. I could really use some help finding a wing for ocean diving with doubles. Basically what I want is a Dive Rite Classic wing with a redundant bladder. (In case of bladder failure, using my drysuit as my sole source of buoyancy control is a really big stretch, and on the gulf coast in summer when I’m not wearing a drysuit…)

Here’s what I would put in my ideal wing:

1) Black
2) Around 55 lbs. lift. Anywhere between 50 and 60 would be fine.
3) NO bungees.
4) Medium length hose with elbow on primary bladder.
5) Short length hose with elbow on redundant bladder.
6) As few dump/overpressure valves as possible. Maybe one on primary bladder and zero or one on the secondary.
7) Tough outer shell with zipper access to bladders.
8) Under $300 would be awesome, but I know I’m looking at something on the order of $450.
9) No other JUNK/gimmicks plastered on it.

Dive Rite’s Dual Rec Wing fits some of this description except that it has their bungee “gusset control” and is really too narrow for doubles. Their SuperWing with the bungee removed would be good except that it’s too much lift (70 lbs.). I guess the OMS 60 lbs. wing with the bungees cut off is probably going to be my best bet… I’m going to be stuck with too many pull dumps no matter what I do!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

don't go deep. 55lb lift is good for rec. if you can, get a bigger lift bag. i've been 120 ft with a 60 and had to climb out. now i got a 100 lbs. lift from oms. no problem . i dive in cold water, so i need more lift.

Have you looked at Oxycheq wings? I know they make doubles wings with redundant bladders. The inflator hoses look to be a bit longer than you wanted though. They're also black, which I see is your number 1 criteria. :)

Check out www.oxycheq.com . I don't think their website has been updated in awhile. IIFC, Patrick Duffy was having some problems with the website after moving the business to Florida.

Hi jfoutz,

Give a call to Dan at Discountdivegear @ 1-866-334-GEAR or Larry at (972) 820-7667

Either one of they would be able to quote a price and give advice on the wing you need.

Btw, a Oxycheq signature wing is about $285 for the single, I would think it's bout the same for a double.

Cheers,

SangP

The OxyCheq 50lb/70lb dual bladder doubles wing retails for $350 USD in the USA. There is a picture of it here -> http://www.oxycheq.com/Wings-Double.html

Chris at COVCI (www.covci.com) should be able to help out as well. He's a user on this board.

I think the image of the wing in the picture is transposed left-to-right - something about the inflator hoses looks wrong. I have one of these wings coming into the country this week, I can post an updated picture if you like.

I may need a replacement wing too, same issue of tech deco diving in warm water with my 3mm suit. Thanks for the post Scubaroo.

Did you compare the OxyCheqs with the DiveRites? If so what were your thoughts?

Not to tick off the diverite users on this board (I use plenty of their products!), but the oxycheq wing is the winner hands down next to each other. A better comparision would be the oxycheq wing compared to a halcyon wing.

I have a used 80 pound lift OMS dual bladder wing that is in great condition and looks pretty much new. It has the bungies on it. But, when I bought it, it didn't have them. You can just remove them if you want or add them back anytime.

$200 takes it. For $50 more, I will include a Dive Rite plastic backplate and harness (with a quick release on each shoulder that I had added by Dive Rite) that includes weight pouches, a large slate pouch, neoprene shoulder pads, crotch strap, and cummerbund. There is some fading on the materials related to the backplate, but this will not affect it operationally at all. It will just look a little used, which is what it is.

I can email pics.
